Rayo 3 – Cádiz 1: Visitors unable to get win at Estadio de Vallecas

Cádiz fell to an away defeat at the hands of Rayo Vallecano at Estadio de Vallecas on Sunday. Rayo were looking to continue their run after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Athletic Bilbao away (2-1), the other to Getafe at home (3-0). Cádiz are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. As it stands, Rayo are in 8th place on the table and has 10 points while Cádiz sit in 13th with 6 points after 7 matches.

Rayo dominated the first half, with Alvaro Garcia giving Rayo the lead, 9 minutes in. Cádiz then went on to level the score at 1-1 at the 23 minute mark, thanks to a goal from Varazdat Haroyan. Rayo managed to edge ahead with a goal from Falcao just before half-time, which saw the first half end 2-1.

Rayo continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Isi Palazon just before the final whistle. The game ended with a 3-1 home victory.

For Rayo, Santi Comesana, Randy Nteka, Pathe Ciss, Sergi Guardiola and Nikola Maras, came on for Unai Lopez, Falcao, Óscar Valentín, Oscar Trejo and Esteban Saveljich. Cádiz brought on Ruben Sobrino, Alvaro Jimenez, Alvaro Negredo, Anthony Lozano and Alberto Perea, to replace Jens Jonsson, Santiago Arzamendia, Florin Andone, Alvaro Bastida and Carlos Akapo.

There were bookings for Isi Palazon and Ivan Balliu from Rayo, and Alvaro Bastida, Varazdat Haroyan, Juan Cala and Alberto Perea, for Cádiz.

Rayo will next travel to Osasuna, while Cádiz will face Valencia at home.
