On Monday, Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo were held to a 2-2 draw at Wanda Metropolitano. Atletico Madrid were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches against Cádiz away and Valencia at home, by 4-2 and 3-1 respectively. Celta Vigo, on the other hand, had managed to pick up a single point in their encounter with Granada. After today’s result, Atletico Madrid are in 1st place, with 51 points from 22 matches, while Celta Vigo sit in 10th, with 26 points from 22.
Celta Vigo started the game well, beginning with Santi Mina opening the scoring in the 13th minute. However, their lead didn’t last for long, as an equalizer from a Luis Suarez just before half-time brought Atletico Madrid level. The score at half time was 1-1.
The second half started in favour of Atletico Madrid, following early goal from Luis Suarez, scoring his second goal in the 50th minute. However, they didn’t maintain the lead for long though, an equalizer from a Facundo Ferreyra just before the final whistle brought Celta Vigo level. The game ended a 2-2 draw.
For Atletico, Lucas Torreira came on for Nolito and Santi Mina, while Celta brought on Augusto Solari and Facundo Ferreyra to replace Nolito and Santi Mina.
There were bookings for Felipe and Jose Gimenez from Atletico and Renato Tapia and Denis Suarez for Celta.
Atletico Madrid will next travel to Granada, while Celta Vigo will face Elche at home.
