Elche defeat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 on Saturday at Estadio Martínez Valero. Elche were looking to pick up points, following a 3-1 victory against Cádiz. Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, lost 1-0 in the last match they played against R Madrid. This left, Elche are in 17th place on the table and has 36 points while Athletic Bilbao sit in 9th with 46 points after 38 matches.

Elche started strongly in the first half, with a goal from Lucas Boye, 28 minutes in, seeing out the first half 1-0.

Elche continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Raul Guti, 73 minutes in. The game ended with a 2-0 home victory.

For Elche, Josema, Ivan Marcone, Johan Mojica, Helibelton Palacios and Nino, came on for Gonzalo Verdu, Pablo Piatti, Josan, Omenuke Mfulu and Lucas Boye. Athletic Bilbao brought on Unai Vencedor, Inaki Williams, Inigo Vicente and Oscar De Marcos for Mikel Vesga, Oihan Sancet, Ibai Gomez and Inigo Lekue.
