Athletic Bilbao’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo on Saturday, was hard fought at the Estadio Municipal de Balaidos. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Celta arrived with the intention of increasing their league score after a scoreless draw against Osasuna in their previous match. Athletic Bilbao had managed to pick up a single point in their encounter with Barcelona. Following today’s result, Celta are currently 16th with 1 point from 3 matches, while Athletic Bilbao sit in 11th, with 2 points from 3.

Athletic Bilbao started the game well, thanks to a goal from Inaki Williams at the 34 minute mark to see out the first half 0-1. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-0.

For Celta, Fran Beltran, Franco Cervi, Augusto Solari and Thiago Galhardo, came on for Denis Suarez, Nolito, Renato Tapia and Joseph Aidoo. Athletic Bilbao replaced Iker Muniain, Unai Vencedor, Oihan Sancet, Dani Garcia and Inaki Williams for Nicholas Williams, Oier Zarraga, Raul Garcia, Mikel Vesga and Asier Villalibre.

There were bookings for Brais Mendez and Hugo Mallo from Celta. For Athletic Bilbao, Unai Simon saw yellow.

Celta will next play R Madrid away, with Athletic Bilbao facing Mallorca at home.
