Elche fell to an away defeat at the hands of Celta at the Estadio Municipal de Balaidos on Friday. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Celta Vigo arrived with the intention of increasing their league score following a disappointing 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid in their previous game. Elche were unable to beat Villarreal in a 2-2 draw. As it stands, Celta Vigo are in 9th place on the table and has 29 points while Elche sit in 19th with 18 points after 23 matches.

Celta Vigo started the first half well, beginning with Santi Mina opening the scoring, 45 minutes in. Later, Celta Vigo scored again and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Brais Mendez in the 45th minute just before half-time to see out the first half 2-0.

Elche staged a comeback in the second half, thanks to Emiliano Rigoni opening the scoring, 51 minutes in. Celta Vigo increased their advantage thanks to another goal from Santi Mina, scoring his second goal, 68 minutes in to establish the 3-1. The game ended with a 3-1 victory for Celta Vigo.

For Celta Vigo Augusto Solari, Fran Beltran, Facundo Ferreyra, Miguel Baeza and Joseph Aidoo came on for Nolito, Santi Mina, Brais Mendez, Denis Suarez and Iago Aspas, while Elche replaced Josan, Johan Mojica, Diego Gonzalez and Guido Carrillo for Josema, Tete Morente, Dani Calvo and Pere Milla.

There were bookings for Brais Mendez, Facundo Ferreyra and Iago Aspas from Celta and Emiliano Rigoni and Gonzalo Verdu for Elche.

Celta Vigo will next play Valencia away, with Elche facing Eibar at home.
