Bayer Leverkusen snatched all three points from Celtic in a 4-0 victory on Thursday, at Celtic Park. Celtic were looking to get back their winning ways, following a previous defeat to Real Betis. Bayer, on the other hand, were coming from a 2-1 win against Ferencváros. As the table looks today, Celtic and Bayer sit 4th and 1st places with 0 points and 6 points respectively.
The Company’s Eleven started strongly in the first half, with Piero Hincapie opening the rout, 25 minutes in. Bayer then scored once more and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Florian Wirtz, 35 minutes in, to take a 0-2 lead into half time.
Bayer continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Lucas Alario finding the net, at 58 minutes. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Amine Adli just before the final whistle with a final score of 4-0.
For Celtic, Nir Bitton, James McCarthy, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Albian Ajeti, came on for Tom Rogic, Callum Mcgregor, David Turnbull and Kyogo Furuhashi. Bayer brought on Karim Bellarabi, Nadiem Amiri, Amine Adli, Patrik Schick and Panagiotis Retsos, to replace Moussa Diaby, Charles Aranguiz, Florian Wirtz, Lucas Alario and Paulinho.
There were bookings for Tom Rogic and Cameron Carter-Vickers from Celtic, and Mitchel Bakker, for Bayer.
Celtic will play their next fixture at home against Ferencváros, while Bayer will face Real Betis away.
