Switzerland vs. Spain

Spain qualify for the semifinal after winning the penalty shootout against Switzerland this Friday.

Spain started the first half well, thanks to Zakaria finding the net, 8 minutes in. The first half ended 0-1.

Switzerland took the initiative in the second half, with Shaqiri finding the net at the 68 minute mark and seeing the game end 1-1.

Although the game concluded 1-1 extra time was necessary, since both teams were tied. In the first half neither team scored a goal so it finalised 1-1.

Finally, the result didn't change so the match finalised 1-1.

After the extension, the winner of the match was decided during the penalty round. Of the two teams, Spain took the victoria after being imposed by a score of 1 – 3 penalties in the round.

For Switzerland, Vargas, Sow, Gavranovic, Fassnacht, Schär and Mbabu, came on for Embolo, Shaqiri, Seferović, Zuber, Zakaria and Widmer. Spain brought on Dani Olmo, Gerard Moreno, Llorente, Oyarzabal, Thiago and Rodri, to replace Sarabia, Morata, Koke, Ferran Torres, Pau and Pedri.

The referee booked Widmer and Gavranovic from Switzerland and Freuler went off with a red card, while Spain's Laporte also received a yellow.

The Red Fury now march on to the next stage, having dispatched their opponents in the last. This was a result that will give them renewed confidence going forward.
