Sweden 1 – Ukraine 2: The Blue & Yellows get narrow win against The Swedes

Sweden vs. Ukraine

Ukraine won 2-1 at the stadium Sweden after extra time, in their match of round of 16 held this Tuesday.

The Blue & Yellows started the game well, with Zinchenko giving Ukraine the lead at the 27 minute mark. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Forsberg equalised for Sweden just before half-time to see out the first half 1-1. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-1.

Although the game concluded 1-1 extra time was necessary, since both teams were tied. In the first half neither team scored a goal so it finalised 1-1.

In the the second half of extra time Ukraine, thanks to a goal from Dovbyk, 121 minutes in, finalising the game at 2-1.

For Sweden, Bengtsson, Krafth, Quaison, Claesson, Berg and Helander, came on for Augustinsson, Lustig, Larsson, Isak, Kulusevski and Olsson. Ukraine replaced Malinovskyi, Besedin, Makarenko, Tsygankov, Dovbyk and Bezus with Shaparenko, Yaremchuk, Stepanenko, Besedin, Yarmolenko and Sydorchuk.

The referee booked five players. Kulusevski and Forsberg from Sweden, who saw yellow cards and Danielson, sent off with a red, as well as for Ukraine Yarmolenko and Dovbyk received yellows.

This victory will please The Blue & Yellows to maintain this winning form as they advance in the competition, whilst The Swedes must now wait another season to try again.
