Whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Netherlands who started the second half well, with Wijnaldum giving Netherlands the lead, on 52 minutes. The momentum was now with Netherlands, who then scored again through a goal from Weghorst in the 58th minute to establish a 2-0. However, The Blue & Yellows weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Yarmolenko at the 75 minute mark. Ukraine looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a goal from Yaremchuk, 79 minutes in to establish a 2-2. Netherlands managed to edge ahead with a goal from Dumfries just before the final whistle and seeing the game end 3-2.
For Netherlands, Wijndal, Aké, Veltman, De Jong and Malen, came on for Blind, Van Aanholt, Timber, Weghorst and Depay. Ukraine brought on Marlos and Shaparenko, to replace Zubkov and Marlos.
The referee booked Sydorchuk for Ukraine.
