Russia strolled past Finland with a 1-0 win on Wednesday at Estadio Krestovski. Finland were looking to pick up points, following a 1-0 victory against Denmark. Russia, on the other hand, were beaten 3-0 in the previous match against Belgium. After today’s result, both teams are on 3 points and sit in 2nd and 3rd places respectively after 2 matches.
Russia started strongly in the first half, with Aleksey Miranchuk finding the net just before half-time. The score at half time was 0-1. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-0.
For Finland, Kauko, Lappalainen, Soiri and Jensen, came on for Schüller, Pukki, Raitala and Toivio. Russia brought on Karavaev, Zhemaletdinov, Sobolev and Maksim Mukhin, to replace Fernandes, Ozdoev, Dzyuba and Aleksey Miranchuk.
There were bookings for Kamara and O’shaughnessy from Finland, and Barinov, Ozdoev and Dzhikiya, for Russia.
Russia and Finland will next play at home to Denmark and Belgium respectively.
