Stoke dominated the first half, thanks to Sam Surridge finding the net, at 17 minutes. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Cauley Woodrow equalised for The Tykes at the 38 minute mark. The first half ended 1-1. The second half ended with little further action at either end and goalless.
Both managers used allfull available substitutions. For Stoke, Sam Clucas, Abdallah Sima and Alfie Doughty, came on for Joe Allen, Jacob Brown and Sam Surridge, Barnsley replaced Claudio Gomes, Victor Adeboyejo and William Hondermarck with Romal Palmer, Aaron Leya Iseka and Toby Sibbick.
The referee booked Leo Ostigard from Stoke and Tommy Smith went off with a red card, while Barnsley’s Callum Brittain, Bradley Collins, Michal Helik, Victor Adeboyejo and William Hondermarck also received a yellow.
Stoke will next play Derby County away, with Barnsley facing Blackburn Rovers at home.
