Sheffield U 6 – Peterborough United 2- The Blades prevail in a 6 goal thriller at home

Sheffield United cruises against Peterborough United on a home win at Bramall Lane on Saturday. Sheffield U wanted to improve their league standing after a scoreless draw against Luton Town in their previous match. Peterborough United, on the other hand, lost 1-0 in the last match they played against West Bromwich Albion. As it stands, Sheffield U are in 17th place on the table and has 5 points while Peterborough United sit in 21st with 4 points after 6 matches.

It was an impressive opening from Sheffield U, with Iliman Ndiaye opening the rout, 14 minutes in. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Jack Marriott equalised for Peterborough United at the 39 minute mark, to take a 1-1 lead into half time.

The Blades fought back, with John Fleck finding the net after 52 minutes. Sheffield U looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a goal from Ben Osborn, 53 minutes in to establish a 3-1. The momentum was now with The Blades, who then scored again through a goal from Morgan Gibbs-White, 68 minutes in to establish a 4-1. The momentum was now with Sheffield U, who then scored again through a 2nd effort from Morgan Gibbs-White, 70 minutes in to establish a 5-1. However, Peterborough United weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Jonson Clarke-Harris in the 79th minute. In the end though, Sheffield U secured the points emphatically, with a second effort from Ben Osborn just before the final whistle, sealing a 6-2 victory for the away side.

As for substitutions, for Sheffield U, Conor Hourihane, Luke Freeman and Oliver McBurnie, came on for Oliver Norwood, Iliman Ndiaye and Morgan Gibbs-White, Peterborough United brought on Jack Taylor, Jonson Clarke-Harris and Jorge Grant to replace Ollie Norburn, Jack Marriott and Sammie Szmodics.

The referee booked Harrison Burrows and Dan Butler for Peterborough United.

Sheffield U will next play Preston North End at home, with Peterborough United facing Reading away.
