Sheffield Wednesday snatched all three points from Preston North End in a narrow 1-0 victory on Saturday, at Hillsborough Stadium. Sheffield Wednesday were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Derby County at home (1-0), the other to Middlesbrough at home (2-1). Preston North End, on the other hand, are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. After today’s result, Sheffield Wednesday are in 23rd place, with 22 points from 27 matches, while Preston North End sit in 11th, with 36 points from 27.

Sheffield Wednesday started the game well, following a goal from Liam Palmer just before half-time Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-0.

For Sheffield Wednesday Josh Windass, Massimo Luongo and Jordan Rhodes came on for Elias Kachunga, Adam Reach and Callum Paterson, and Preston brought on Tom Barkhuizen, Daniel Johnson, Gregory Cunningham, Billy Bodin and Joe Rafferty for Brad Potts, Ryan Ledson, Emil Riis Jakobsen, Jayson Molumby and Andrew Hughes.

There were bookings for Osaze Urhoghide from Sheffield Wednesday and Ben Whiteman for Preston.
