Preston North End eased past Barnsley in a 2-0 victory on Saturday at Deepdale. Both sides arrived at the challenge after previous wins. North End were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two games in the league. The most recent was against the Coventry City away (1-0), the other to Derby County at home (3-0). Barnsley were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town. After today’s result, North End are in 13th place, with 58 points from 45 matches, while Barnsley sit in 6th, with 77 points from 45.
North End started the first half well, with a goal from Jordan Storey at the 38 minute mark and seeing the first half out 1-0.
The Lilywhites fought back, thanks to an early goal from Ched Evans in the 49th minute, leaving the final score at 2-0.
For North End, Emil Riis Jakobsen, Brad Potts and Tom Bayliss, came on for Tom Barkhuizen, Ben Whiteman and Ched Evans. Barnsley replaced Carlton Morris, Toby Sibbick, Jasper Moon, Victor Adeboyejo and Jordan Williams with Conor Chaplin, Michael Sollbauer, Romal Palmer, Cauley Woodrow and Callum Styles.
There were bookings for Ben Whiteman from North End. For Barnsley, Michal Helik and Daryl Dike saw yellow.
North End will next play Nottingham Forest away, with Barnsley facing Norwich City at home.
