Middlesbrough eased past Sheffield United in a 2-0 victory on Tuesday at the Riverside Stadium. Boro arrived at the game looking pick up points after losing their last game 1-0 to Reading while Sheffield U were coming from consecutive wins against Derby County and Hull City. As it stands, both teams are on 12 points and occupy 11th and 12th places respectively after 10 matches.
Boro started the game well, thanks to Duncan Watmore finding the net after 9 minutes. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Paddy McNair, 37 minutes in and seeing the first half out 2-0. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 2-0.
For Boro, Uche Ikpeazu and Toyosi Olusanya, came on for Andraz Sporar and Duncan Watmore. Sheffield U brought on David McGoldrick, Rhys Norrington-Davies and Conor Hourihane, to replace Oliver Norwood, Enda Stevens and Iliman Ndiaye.
There were bookings for Lee Peltier, Matt Crooks, Andraz Sporar and Souleymane Bamba from Boro. For Sheffield U, Enda Stevens and John Fleck saw yellow.
Next up, Boro are away to Hull City, whilst Sheffield U will travel to face Bournemouth.
