Birmingham City strolled past Luton Town with a 5-0 win on Saturday at Kenilworth Road. Luton had been hopeful of continuing their run, following a 1-0 victory against Barnsley. Birmingham had lost their previous match against Bournemouth. Following today’s result, Luton and Birmingham currently occupy 11th and 7th spots in the league, with 6 points and 7 points respectively after 4 matches.
Birmingham started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with Marc Roberts opening the rout after only 7 minutes. Blues looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a goal from Scott Hogan, 26 minutes in to establish a 2-0. Birmingham then scored again and increased their advantage thanks to a 2nd effort from Scott Hogan just before half-time. The score at half time was 0-3.
Birmingham continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Gary Gardner, 84 minutes in. Birmingham then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Chuks Aneke just before the final whistle to make it 5-0.
Both managers used the full entitlement. For Luton, Glen Rea, Fred Onyedinma and Cameron Jerome, came on for Peter Kioso, Allan Campbell and Harry Cornick, Birmingham brought on Chuks Aneke, Ivan Sanchez and Gary Gardner, to replace Scott Hogan, Tahith Chong and Lukas Jutkiewicz.
There were bookings for Glen Rea from Luton. For Birmingham, Marc Roberts saw yellow.
Luton will play at home against Sheffield United, while Birmingham will face Barnsley away.
