Union Berlin 2 – Gladbach 1- Victory for The Iron Ones at the An der Alten Försterei Stadium

Union Berlin defeat B Mönchengladbach 2-1 on Sunday at the An der Alten Försterei Stadium. Union Berlin wanted to improve their league standing after a 2-2 draw against Hoffenheim. Gladbach had lost their previous match against Bayer Leverkusen. As it stands, Union Berlin and Gladbach currently occupy 8th and 15th spots in the league, with 5 points and 1 point respectively after 3 matches.

Union Berlin started strongly in the first half, with Niko Giesselmann giving Union Berlin the lead, at 22 minutes. The Iron Ones then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Taiwo Awoniyi just before half-time, to take a 2-0 lead into half time.

Gladbach took the lead in the second half, thanks to a goal from Jonas Hofmann just before the final whistle, leaving the final score at 2-1.

For Union Berlin, Julian Ryerson, Kevin Behrens, Cedric Teuchert, Sebastian Griesbeck and Andreas Voglsammer, came on for Genki Haraguchi, Taiwo Awoniyi, Levin Oztunali, Rani Khedira and Max Kruse. Gladbach brought on Keanan Bennetts and Laszlo Benes, to replace Alassane Plea and Florian Neuhaus.

The referee booked Genki Haraguchi and Christopher Trimmel for Union Berlin.

Gladbach and Union Berlin will next play at home to Arminia Bielefeld and Augsburg respectively.
