Schalke on Wednesday lost to Köln on a home defeat at the Veltins-Arena. Schalke 04 arrived at the game looking pick up points, following a previous defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt. FC Köln are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. As the table looks today, Schalke 04 are in 18th place on the table and has 7 points while FC Köln sit in 16th with 15 points after 17 matches.

It was an impressive opening from FC Köln, following a goal from Rafael Czichos in the 31st minute and managed to see out the first half 1-0.

Schalke 04 took the initiative in the second half, with Matthew Hoppe opening the scoring in the 57th minute. However, FC Köln just before the final whistle reestablished their lead thanks to a Jan Thielmann goal. The game ended with a 2-1 victory for FC Köln.

For Schalke 04 Omar Mascarell, Nassim Boujellab and Bastian Oczipka came on for Matija Nastasic, Benito Raman and Sead Kolasinac, while Köln replaced Rafael Czichos, Kingsley Ehizibue, Jonas Hector, Dominick Drexler and Ondrej Duda for Noah Katterbach, Elvis Rexhbecaj, Salih Ozcan, Toluwalase Emmanuel Arokodare and Jan Thielmann.

There were bookings for Benjamin Stambouli and Nassim Boujellab from Schalke and Jannes Horn for Köln.

Schalke 04 will play their next fixture at home against Bayern München, while FC Köln will face Hoffenheim away.
