Hoffenheim 2 – Union Berlin 2- From Kraichgau region held to a draw by visiting The Iron Ones

Hoffenheim were held to 2-2 draw by Union Berlin down on Sunday at the Pre Zero Arena. Hoffenheim were looking to pick up points after winning last match. Union Berlin had managed to pick up a single point in their encounter with Bayer Leverkusen. After today’s result, Hoffenheim and Union Berlin currently occupy 2nd and 11th spots in the league, with 4 points and 2 points respectively after 2 matches.

The Iron Ones started the first half well, thanks to Niko Giesselmann giving Union Berlin the lead, at 10 minutes. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Kevin Akpoguma managed to equalize and take the sides off, 14 minutes in at 1-1. From Kraichgau region looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a goal from Jacob Bruun Larsen at the 30 minute mark to establish a 2-1. However, their lead was short lived, as Taiwo Awoniyi equalised for Union Berlin just before half-time, which saw the first half end 2-2. Both teams unable to deliver anything further, the score remained at 2-2 at full time.

For Hoffenheim, Sargis Adamyan, Georginio Rutter, Mijat Gacinovic and Diadie Samassekou, came on for Jacob Bruun Larsen, Munas Dabbur, Christoph Baumgartner and Sebastian Rudy. Union Berlin replaced Marcus Ingvartsen, Niko Giesselmann, Taiwo Awoniyi and Genki Haraguchi for Levin Oztunali, Christopher Trimmel, Andreas Voglsammer and Cedric Teuchert.

The referee booked Diadie Samassekou from Hoffenheim. Union Berlin had the worst of it though, with Rani Khedira and Marvin Friedrich seeing yellow, and Marvin Friedrich (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Hoffenheim will next play Borussia Dortmund away, with Union Berlin facing B Mönchengladbach at home.
