Cologne 3 – Greuther Fürth 1- Points secure for The Billy Goats at the Rhein Energie Stadion

Cologne enjoyed a mesmerising home victory against Greuther Fürth at the Rhein Energie Stadion on Friday. Cologne were looking for a victory following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in their previous game. Greuther Fürth, on the other hand, were beaten 3-1 in the previous match against Bayern Munich. After today’s result, Cologne are in 6th place on the table and has 12 points while Greuther Fürth sit in 18th with 1 point after 7 matches.

Greuther Fürth started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with a goal from Marco Meyerhofer early in the first half, to take a 0-1 lead into half time.

Cologne fought back, thanks to an early goal from Sebastian Andersson in the 50th minute. The momentum was now with The Billy Goats, who then scored again through a goal from Ellyes Skhiri, at 55 minutes to establish a 2-1. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a 2nd effort from Ellyes Skhiri just before the final whistle to make it 3-1.

For Cologne, Dejan Ljubicic, Kingsley Ehizibue, Kingsley Schindler, Salih Ozcan and Louis Schaub, came on for Ondrej Duda, Anthony Modeste, Florian Kainz, Benno Erik Schmitz and Sebastian Andersson. Greuther Fürth brought on Jamie Leweling, Cedric Itten, Max Christiansen and Dickson Abiama, to replace Timothy Tillmann, Branimir Hrgota, Sebastian Griesbeck and Havard Nielsen.

There were bookings for Sebastian Andersson from Cologne, and Sebastian Griesbeck, for Greuther Fürth.

Cologne will next travel to Hoffenheim, while Greuther Fürth will face Bochum at home.
