Bochum 2 – Mainz 0- Home fans rewarded with victory at Vonovia Ruhrstadion

Bochum enjoyed a mesmerising home victory against Mainz at Vonovia Ruhrstadion on Saturday. Bochum arrived at the game looking pick up points, following a previous defeat to Wolfsburg. Mainz had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 1-0 victory against RB Leipzig. As the table looks today, Bochum are in 17th place on the table and has 0 points while Mainz sit in 6th with 3 points after 2 matches.

Bochum started the game well, thanks to Gerrit Holtmann finding the net after 21 minutes to take them into the break 1-0 up.

Bochum continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Sebastian Polter in the 56th minute, leaving the final score at 2-0.

For Bochum, Herbert Bockhorn, Erhan Masovic, Kostas Stafylidis and Takuma Asano, came on for Cristian Gamboa, Milos Pantovic, Elvis Rexhbecaj and Gerrit Holtmann. Mainz replaced Dominik Kohr, Jean-Paul Boetius, Juste, Adam Szalai and Kevin Stoger with Niklas Tauer, Paul Nebel, Alexander Hack, Lee Jae Sung and Stefan Bell.

There were bookings for Elvis Rexhbecaj, Manuel Riemann, Takuma Asano and Simon Zoller from Bochum, and Jean-Paul Boetius, Leandro Martins and Dominik Kohr, for Mainz.

Bochum will next travel to FC Köln, while Mainz will face Greuther Fürth at home.
