Leverkusen were defeated at home by Freiburg at The Bay Arena on Sunday. Bayer Leverkusen wanted to continue adding points following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Augsburg in their previous game. SC Freiburg were beaten 1-0 in the previous match against Union Berlin. As it stands, Bayer Leverkusen and SC Freiburg currently occupy 6th and 8th spots in the table, with 37 points and 34 points respectively after 23 matches.

After a goalless first half, The second half started all good for SC Freiburg, beginning with early goal from Ermedin Demirovic in the 50th minute. Later, SC Freiburg scored again thanks to a goal from Lucas Holer in the 61st minute to establish the 2-0. Bayer Leverkusen hit back thanks to a goal from Leon Bailey in minute 70 to establish the 2-1, sealing a resounding 2-1 victory for the away side.

For Bayer Leverkusen Aleksandar Dragovic, Jeremie Frimpong, Patrik Schick and Karim Bellarabi came on for Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Demarai Gray, Nadiem Amiri and Jeremie Frimpong, while Freiburg brought on Manuel Gulde, Janik Haberer, Keven Schlotterbeck, Roland Sallai and Woo-yeong Jeong to replace Philipp Lienhart, Vincenzo Grifo, Lukas Kubler, Lucas Holer and Ermedin Demirovic.

There were bookings for Charles Aranguiz and Leon Bailey from Leverkusen and Ermedin Demirovic, Nicolas Hofler and Roland Sallai for Freiburg.

Bayer Leverkusen will next travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach, while SC Freiburg will face RB Leipzig at home.
