Reading eased past Bristol City in a 2-0 victory on Tuesday at Ashton Gate. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Bristol City were looking forward to meeting again, following a previous defeat to Watford. Reading, on the other hand, were beaten 2-1 in the previous match against Millwall. Reading scored first, beginning with a goal from Lucas Joao, 43 minutes in. Later, Reading took the lead with a goal form a goal from Michael Morrison in the 45th minute just before half-time.
