Southampton on home loss to Villa at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday. Both sides came from defeats in their previous league games. Southampton were looking to get back winning ways, following a previous defeat to Arsenal. Aston Villa had lost their previous match against Burnley. As the table looks today, Southampton are in 11th place on the table and has 29 points while Aston Villa sit in 8th with 32 points after 21 matches.

The first half of the game started favourably for Aston Villa, thanks to Ross Barkley opening the scoring just before half-time and managed to see out the first half 1-0. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-0.

For Southampton, Moussa Djenepo, Che Adams and Alexandre Jankewitz came on for Ross Barkley, while Villa brought on Marvelous Nakamba to replace Ross Barkley.

The referee booked James Ward-Prowse for Southampton.

Southampton will play away against Manchester United, while Aston Villa will face West Ham United at home.
